Rain Hou (b.2005) is a first-year undergraduate student in the Columbia University-Juilliard School of Music Exchange Program. She studies creative writing at Columbia University and composition at
Juilliard School of Music with Melinda Wagner. As she continues her journey as a composer, she
familiarizes herself with different styles of music, among which she learned from the tonal languages of her favorite composers, including Debussy, Ravel, Stravinsky, and Scriabin. Apart from her musical life, she pursues her dream as a writer: She has published several proses and non-fiction, and her works can be found at the National Scholastic Art&Writing Award, Young Authors Writing Competition, Emptyinkwellreview, etc. As a result of her experience, most of her works are named after literature: Her first string quartet is named after Autobiography of Red, an Anne Carson’s prose poetry that is her all-time favorite. In her spare time, Rain loves reading poetry and collecting Jellycat toys.
